Welcome to the Recycle at Boots App.
About
The Recycle at Boots Scheme, operated by Boots UK Limited and Boots Retail (Ireland) Limited, utilizes Scan2Recycle technology to facilitate the recycling of hard-to-recycle packaging associated with beauty, health, and wellness products. This initiative specifically targets items that are often overlooked in typical recycling streams, including small products (such as travel minis), composite materials (like eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks), unrecyclable items (toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes), and blister packs that are not accepted in standard household curbside collections.
It is important to note that the Scheme does not accept widely recyclable materials such as cardboard, paper packaging, glass jars, aluminum containers, or shampoo and conditioner bottles, as these can be recycled through regular household waste channels. For specific recycling guidelines, please consult your local council.
The Scheme rewards Boots Advantage Card members with Advantage Card points upon spending £10 or more while recycling a minimum number of qualifying items.
How does the Scheme work?
To participate in the scheme, users must first create a Boots Scan2Recycle account. Following the account setup, please adhere to these steps:
- Upload images of eligible recyclables into your account; the full list can be found on the 'Recyclable Types' page within your account.
- Navigating to 'Recyclables', select 'Add Recyclables' and photograph the product (ensure that the entire product with brand and name is visible; barcode images should not be submitted).
- Use the dropdown menu to label your items accordingly by brand, product, and packaging type.
- Your images will be reviewed and verified within 24 hours on weekdays (excluding UK public holidays).
- Once verified, your items will appear in the approved section of 'Recyclables' and will be ready for deposit.
To deposit items:
- Visit a participating store.
- Scan the QR code located at the designated recycling points within the store.
- Select at least five items for deposit in one transaction.
- Confirm the deposit on the screen.
- Deposit the items.
The deposit will undergo verification, and upon successful completion, you will receive a reward voucher credited to your account. If the reward voucher does not appear immediately, please refresh your page and check the 'deposits' section. In case of an unapproved deposit, check your email for a notification regarding the reasons for denial.
What happens to recycled products?
All deposited packaging is sent to MYgroup, our recycling partner based in the UK, where it undergoes recycling processes that allow it to be reused or transformed into new products. Recycled materials may be repurposed into various applications such as street furniture or shop fittings. Additionally, they contribute to a composite material known as ‘MYboard,’ designed as an eco-friendly alternative to wooden plywood. This material helps reduce reliance on forestry products and is utilized broadly by joiners, shop fitters, building merchants, and in home use.
MYgroup ensures full traceability throughout the recycling process—an essential factor in mitigating plastic waste in our oceans and environment. We guarantee that none of these materials will end up in landfills or incineration facilities.
The Story So Far
Since its launch in 2020, the Recycle at Boots Scheme has successfully recovered over 145 tonnes of hard-to-recycle plastics—equivalent to more plastic than that contained in an average house or approximately 30 elephants. The scheme has distributed over 520 thousand rewards to our users while preventing 2.9 million products from reaching landfills or incineration sites. Our technology facilitates comprehensive traceability and reporting on all received items, ensuring accountability from deposit through re-manufacture.
Join us in making a positive impact through recycling and reap rewards for your contributions.
